This is one of my characters for representation purposes, so while this has a design, and perhaps some points of interest, I have no plans of a story with this one. Well, I said I had no plans, but there's always that imaginary plot somewhere.
Regarding the name... "Megu" is from megumi (恵), which means blessing or grace, and the reisu part is from grace spelled out in katakana (グレイス). That is all (and pretty much labels me as something of a weeb). Despite being long, I like the ring of it.
I wanted to go with a cat character at first because I like cats, but I have had too much of it (there were earlier representative characters that were also cats) and they are much too common in design... So instead, I came up with this mix and match sort of thing and just put cat ears on, as a nod to all the cat things I went with in the past.
Well... the choice of chimera was not completely random. At first, I was thinking of animals that copied sounds, as I liked repeating interesting sounds myself and thought it would be a thing as I used the character in videos. And so my first designs slightly referenced the hill mynah and the lyrebird.
After some thinking, however, I did not want to use these as I was not intending to sing, and I am not completely confident with my voice. Also, I wanted something a little more local... and something I would like to wear if I were to go to a convention? There were many things going on in my head at the time...
One of them is the "main animal" I wanted to use, the main species, if you will. I do not remember the thought process, exactly, but I soon settled on the tokay gecko (tuko). But I was reminded of an earlier creature I had in mind before, which was a mix of a cat and a lizard, so instead of being reptilian in appearance, it now has fur on top.
I still have to work out describing the other points of interest. I will also have to draw a bit more, I am sure. I just have not gotten to sketching.
