I would like to note (very late, I might add, given it is hard for me to articulate some of this) that I took down the link to Mysteries Around Del Mundo Tower. It is something that I do not need to point out a reason for, however I do want to say that I do not believe that it fits with who I am now. It is at this point that yes, I realize it is one of those ideas I need to let go of.
I have long debated on it in my mind, but I guess what had finally convinced me (or perhaps the more apt word is "convicted") was a certain video I watched on YouTube. In that video, the man was telling his viewers about why he had stopped making "Christian gaming" videos. He said it was because he had started it with the wrong heart posture (aka. he started it with the wrong motive that focused on himself) and it kept him from doing what God had intended for him.
It had me thinking about how that story (or rather, those stories) came about in the first place. It started as an idea with someone I called a friend back then, and was someone I looked up to as someone who was also Christian.
I may write about it in another piece, but he (and the rest of this group I was with) soon turned out to be possibly not actually Christian at all. Even now, as I write this, I still struggle with the idea that I and the people I considered my friends are possibly on different sides. Right now, I can only pray for them.
While I do believe art is not the artist himself or herself, I do also believe that art reflects the artist in some way. Following this, I say that Mysteries Around Del Mundo Tower is a product of beliefs and fantasies that were not of minds under God. It really was intended to be cosmic horror short stories and I do not think I can reconcile that with how I know God works and how He takes care of His creation. Why would I want to fantasize a world that doesn't have hope?
I could probably still write fiction (although I believe I will focus more on non-fiction), but if there is one thing I want to keep in what I write, it is hope. Subject matter does not always have to be positive, but I believe that there is always room for hope.
