You were not keen on being called a quitter because you walked out of your job on the first day (not that you even walked in there in the first place), but you were even less keen on working in a place where people just threw themselves off of it. And at the time, you were quite certain that the vibe of the onlookers just didn’t feel right.
And you felt yourself vindicated as you watched the news in the next few days. Apparently, the incident had led to people treating it as some sort of miracle that warranted worship, and the worst kind too. You saw droves of them flocked around the Del Mundo Tower, staring at the gently falling girl for hours on end, their faces enraptured by the sight and their expressions caught fully on camera.
Chills went up and down your spine as you tried to imagine yourself staying there a moment longer instead of leaving when you did. Would you have ended up the same as them? Would you still have been able to think? Would you have been able to look away at that point? You didn’t know.
Soon, pretty much everyone who had seen the girl personally had either stayed in front of the Del Mundo Tower, had gotten to talk about her incessantly regardless of proximity, or both. There were all sorts of content about her, from blog posts to games to theories.
None of those had predicted what would happen the moment the girl hit the ground, however.
It would have been reasonable to imagine that she would have landed gracefully, but it was not the case. You knew since you saw it as it happened on TV. As soon as a bit of her body touched the ground, she burst in a mass of blood and guts, stunning the crowd in shock.
Then the panic set in. A collective scream came from the people and everyone rushed to get out of the scene. From the view of the camera that had then been knocked over, you could see the chaos ensue. People were moving their legs as fast as they could, to the point that some of them were bumping into each other or tripping on the ground.
The chill that you felt before when you ran away had now returned.
You had to get out of there.
